A - Z Blogging Challenge & Where Bloggers Live 04.10.2026

It's Fri-YAY, friends!!  But not just any old Friday.  It's the second Friday of the month which means - drum roll, please - it is time for this month's installment of Where Bloggers Live.  And in the immortal words of Jackie Gleason - anyone else remember him on "The Honeymooners"? - 'and away we go.'

The "Where Bloggers Live" series was created by Bettye at Fashion Schlub to be something like HGTV's "Celebrities at Home," but...with bloggers!  Bettye recognized how most of us enjoy peeking behind the scenes in other people's homes and lives.  So, "Where Bloggers Live" was born.  Every month members of our little posse share their lives and their thoughts in posts based on specific prompts.

This month we are talking about something completely unfamiliar to me in my current life.  Today's theme is "My Favorite Rainy Day Things."  Oh, if I could only have a rainy day to find out what my favorite rainy day things would be!!  

This year so far we have received 2.3" of rain this year.  And I don't think a single drop fell over my house.  But when I asked Alexa for that statistic, she told me that tomorrow we will have lots of clouds and thunderstorms with a 55% chance of rain from noon until bedtime.  Should I postpone this post until then?  Or should I use this post as an opportunity to plan what I would like to do when it does rain tomorrow?  Decisions, decisions.  I think I will run with it...

My Favorite Rainy Day Things

I am going to pretend that if it does ever rain again, I am able to stay home and enjoy every precious moment.  So, my first favorite rainy day thing would be to just be at home.  What else?

• sleep late to the sound of rain falling on the roof
• open the windows on the back porch so the whole house fills with the musty, damp smell of rain 
• enjoy something sweet for breakfast - maybe doughnuts but that would mean leaving the house to get them UNLESS I send PC
• read on the loveseat in my loft 
• do something crafty that I have been putting off doing - maybe the pastel drawing of Lucia and Cadence at the beach
• if it is only drippy and not pouring down rain, I might dust off my rainboots (not sure why I even have rainboots) and take them out for a spin.  Afraid they may soon be dry rotted if they don't see a puddle or two.
• and if it is chilly, I would light a fire in the fireplace and maybe drink a cup of Mexican hot cocoa
• cuddle with the kitties
• maybe watch an old favorite movie with PC
• play some of our albums on the record player and try to convince PC to dance with me
• climb back in bed for a catnap
• fix a charcuterie board for dinner provided, of course, I have all the fixings.  Should I keep them on hand in case of rain?
• pop a bottle of wine
• work on a jigsaw puzzle together
• give each other a mini-massage
• slip back into bed for an early night listening to the rain continue to come down outside our window

If we don't get rain tomorrow, I might just make all of this happen in the sunshine on Sunday!!

A - Z Blogging Challenge

These days are becoming one big blogging blur.  I have to sing the Alphabet Song to figure out what letter each day's post should revolve around.  This is the 9th day of the challenge so A B C D E F G H ... I.  Today I am writing about a glimmer or little blessing in my life that begins with the letter I.

It was last month's edition of Where Bloggers Live that gave me the idea for using glimmers as my theme for the A - Z Blogging Challenge.  If you missed that post, please find it here.

I is for Ice Cream

Ice cream is always a glimmer in my life.  I like sweets of all types and have never been known to refuse dessert.  But ice cream is currently my favorite gastronomic sin.  

I try not to keep ice cream in the house because I will eat it.  Ha!!  So we tend to pay 3 times more at Dairy Queen for a single serving than what a gallon of Great Value ice cream would cost at Walmart.  All because we have little self-control when it comes to ice cream.  

Like doughnuts, ice cream is a little edible celebration to me.  A party for your taste buds.  Ice cream is fun.  I have fond memories of walking to get ice cream with my parents when I was a little girl both in Boston and later in Memphis.  My sister Valerie always bit off the end of her ice cream cone first thing which made for an awful mess as we walked home.  

My dad loved homemade ice cream.  Homemade vanilla ice cream.  Vanilla has always seemed so boring when you can have Bunny Tracks or Rocky Road or Tin Roof or Cookie Dough.  But to each his own.  We spent many a summer evening watching and helping my dad crank the old fashioned ice cream maker in our backyard.  Goodness, I haven't thought of that bit of happiness in a very long time.

If it weren't already so late tonight, I might be in the mood for a bowl of ice cream right now.  Maybe tomorrow.

Now I've gone and done it.  I want ice cream but PC has already gone up to bed.  We do have some vanilla leftover from my birthday on Monday.  Maybe I could just have a spoonful??  You won't tell on me will you??
