A - Z Blogging Challenge & Where Bloggers Live 04.10.2026
It's Fri-YAY, friends!! But not just any old Friday. It's the second Friday of the month which means - drum roll, please - it is time for this month's installment of Where Bloggers Live. And in the immortal words of Jackie Gleason - anyone else remember him on "The Honeymooners"? - 'and away we go.'
Where Bloggers Live
The "Where Bloggers Live" series was created by Bettye at Fashion Schlub to be something like HGTV's "Celebrities at Home," but...with bloggers! Bettye recognized how most of us enjoy peeking behind the scenes in other people's homes and lives. So, "Where Bloggers Live" was born. Every month members of our little posse share their lives and their thoughts in posts based on specific prompts.
This month we are talking about something completely unfamiliar to me in my current life. Today's theme is "My Favorite Rainy Day Things." Oh, if I could only have a rainy day to find out what my favorite rainy day things would be!!
This year so far we have received 2.3" of rain this year. And I don't think a single drop fell over my house. But when I asked Alexa for that statistic, she told me that tomorrow we will have lots of clouds and thunderstorms with a 55% chance of rain from noon until bedtime. Should I postpone this post until then? Or should I use this post as an opportunity to plan what I would like to do when it does rain tomorrow? Decisions, decisions. I think I will run with it...
My Favorite Rainy Day Things
- sleep late to the sound of rain falling on the roof
- open the windows on the back porch so the whole house fills with the musty, damp smell of rain
- enjoy something sweet for breakfast - maybe doughnuts but that would mean leaving the house to get them UNLESS I send PC
- read on the loveseat in my loft
- do something crafty that I have been putting off doing - maybe the pastel drawing of Lucia and Cadence at the beach
- if it is only drippy and not pouring down rain, I might dust off my rainboots (not sure why I even have rainboots) and take them out for a spin. Afraid they may soon be dry rotted if they don't see a puddle or two.
- and if it is chilly, I would light a fire in the fireplace and maybe drink a cup of Mexican hot cocoa
- cuddle with the kitties
- maybe watch an old favorite movie with PC
- play some of our albums on the record player and try to convince PC to dance with me
- climb back in bed for a catnap
- fix a charcuterie board for dinner provided, of course, I have all the fixings. Should I keep them on hand in case of rain?
- pop a bottle of wine
- work on a jigsaw puzzle together
- give each other a mini-massage
- slip back into bed for an early night listening to the rain continue to come down outside our window
If we don't get rain tomorrow, I might just make all of this happen in the sunshine on Sunday!!
A - Z Blogging Challenge
These days are becoming one big blogging blur. I have to sing the Alphabet Song to figure out what letter each day's post should revolve around. This is the 9th day of the challenge so A B C D E F G H ... I. Today I am writing about a glimmer or little blessing in my life that begins with the letter I.
It was last month's edition of Where Bloggers Live that gave me the idea for using glimmers as my theme for the A - Z Blogging Challenge. If you missed that post, please find it here.
I is for Ice Cream
Ice cream is always a glimmer in my life. I like sweets of all types and have never been known to refuse dessert. But ice cream is currently my favorite gastronomic sin.
I try not to keep ice cream in the house because I will eat it. Ha!! So we tend to pay 3 times more at Dairy Queen for a single serving than what a gallon of Great Value ice cream would cost at Walmart. All because we have little self-control when it comes to ice cream.
Like doughnuts, ice cream is a little edible celebration to me. A party for your taste buds. Ice cream is fun. I have fond memories of walking to get ice cream with my parents when I was a little girl both in Boston and later in Memphis. My sister Valerie always bit off the end of her ice cream cone first thing which made for an awful mess as we walked home.
My dad loved homemade ice cream. Homemade vanilla ice cream. Vanilla has always seemed so boring when you can have Bunny Tracks or Rocky Road or Tin Roof or Cookie Dough. But to each his own. We spent many a summer evening watching and helping my dad crank the old fashioned ice cream maker in our backyard. Goodness, I haven't thought of that bit of happiness in a very long time.
If it weren't already so late tonight, I might be in the mood for a bowl of ice cream right now. Maybe tomorrow.
As I wind things up, allow me to share some of the sweetest angels in Texas enjoying ice cream.
And in Phoenix.
Ice cream is always a good idea. And it is one of life's little blessings.
Your Turn
Now I've gone and done it. I want ice cream but PC has already gone up to bed. We do have some vanilla leftover from my birthday on Monday. Maybe I could just have a spoonful?? You won't tell on me will you??
Thank you for visiting. I sure appreciate your friendship!! Hope you will pop by to visit my Where Bloggers Live buddies, now, too. Let's find out how they spend a rainy day. I might need to take notes!!
Hugs and kisses,

A little bit of rainy day ice cream wouldn't be wrong. Though if you made ice cream a rainy day only treat, you'd be pretty sad! We've had almost 6" of rain so far this year, which is good considering that most of it was winter (50" of snow so far this year)! Sending you some rainy day in the desert wishes! - Sally in St Paul
ReplyDeleteWow, 6" of rain is almost our annual total. And 50" of snow would take us 20 winters to accumulate. That is crazy. Thank you for the rainy day wishes. We had a sprinkle but I am hopeful maybe this week we will get two or three real drops!!
DeleteWow, you've got an awful lot of favorite rainy day activities for someone who never has a rainy day! I wish we could hang out on a rainy day sometime, you've got quite the itinerary! I'll bring the wine if you make the charcuterie :-)

LOL, I would be honored and delighted to hang out with you in the rain or the sun. And I would definitely put together the charcuterie. Please, may I have a sweet white wine?
DeleteWhat a fun and motivating post—A to Z challenges are such a great way to spark creativity and connect with other bloggers. I'll take any excuse for ice cream. Haha!
ReplyDeleteThank you, sugar foot. This A - Z has worn me out. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
DeleteI love to stay in and read on a rainy day, not that we get many here in Southern California! My ideal treat would be shortbread and tea…
ReplyDeleteMmmm, shortbread and tea!! I used to drink hot tea somewhat regularly but have moved away from it and coffee other than about a half cup in the A.M. Thank you for visiting.
DeleteYou and I have the same sparsity of rain!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list although I might be frustrated because I'd never get any of it done, LOL
Xoxo
Jodie
I think our climates are very similar but we may have more wind and you have more heat.
DeleteI feel a little guilty. We have PLENTY of rain and I don't remotely have an agenda as thorough as yours is! After reading both your and Jodie's posts, I am coming to appreciate how much I take rain for granted (because we get so much of it.). We're up to 16 inches already for this year...actually quite a bit above normal. I don't actually mind a rainy day, and in summer generally enjoy a nice rain from our screen room.
ReplyDeleteI checked your weather and it looks like you had some localized showers, so I hope you enjoyed a lovely day either way....and rain or shine, EVERY day is a great day for ice cream!
LOL love that you checked my weather. It has been teasing us for a week with cloudy skies but only a couple of dusty drops of rain. Truly - a couple of drops. Cannot imagine 16 inches of rain already. We get half that in a year. Our poor lawn. No wonder why nothing wants to grow. Thank you for making me giggle!!
DeleteIce cream on a rainy day sounds like heaven. But I'm also ok with a warm drink, a cozy blanket, and a remote control. LOL The kids are getting so big -- I remember when they were babies. I always say it feels like they get older and we don't.
ReplyDeleteHow true. The babies are getting older with everyday but I feel more or less that same as I did 10 years ago. Thank goodness. To be honest, a warm drink, blankie and good book are the best options on a rainy day for me. But I never turn down ice cream. Thank you for popping by!!
DeleteHi Leslie - I didn't realize you were doing the AtoZ Challenge - I did it for a few years and it's a HUGE undertaking to blog about something interesting every day for a month. I LOVE your choice of Glimmers as a theme - absolutely perfect! Icecream is a fun one too - and the pics of the family with their icecream delights were gorgeous. x I do wish I could find a way to subscribe to your posts so I don't forget to pop over for a visit regularly.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Leanne for popping in. I am worn slick with the A-Z and fresh out of ideas. Thank you for the encouragement and sweet message. Need to gather steam for the last week.
DeleteI love my fam, as you know, so they are my best glimmers. But ice cream is right up there.
I think you can subscribe to my new blog underneath my picture and profile blurb. Thank you!!
I try not to keep ice cream in the house either and would much prefer to pay for an individual serving at a stand as a treat too.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it terribly dangerous to have ice cream in the house? Dang it, now my jeans are tight again.
