Hodgepodge 10.15.2026
Hey friends, just popping on real quick to join Joyce and the gang for this week's Hodgepodge. I usually combine my hodgepodge posts with some other kind of link up but today's is pure hodgepodge and nothing else.
Hope you will join me in visiting Joyce at From This Side of the Pond and some of the other gals for their take on this week's thought-provoking questions.
Hodgepodge 10.15.2026
1. Do you think you're driven more by curiosity or comfort? Explain.
Unless there are lights and sirens involved, I am driven more by comfort. I am not terribly curious. More nosy. But when it comes to police cars and fire trucks and ambulances, I get very curious very quickly.
2. What non-food item is in your refrigerator or freezer?
What a fun question. These 24K gold, under eye patches to reduce puffiness. They work - for a short time. Might work longer if I used them more routinely. It was suggested they be kept in the fridge to make them more refreshing when applied.
PC has some grape Kool-aid soaked hot dogs in a Ziplock freezer bag in the freezer in the garage. He has used the hot dogs (with NO luck) as fishing bait. We also have quite the number of ice packs, ice wraps, and bottles of frozen water. PC has been using them to ice the incision from his hip replacement surgery.
LOOK who caught a fish with his hot dogs and shrimp, today (and threw it back into the lake, I might add).
3. Are you comfortable with silence? If you're home alone, do you like silence or do you need regular background noise? Do you seek out times and places to be silent? What's your favorite place to find silence/be silent?
I am a retired librarian so yes, yes I am comfortable with silence. But I was pretty noisy in my libraries. Certainly not shhh-y by any means. I am so very rarely home alone that I have forgotten what it is like. Would be comfortable with silence but would probably turn on a trial on YouTube at some point.
Noise does get to me more these days. I have had hearing aids for close to a year and while they have made a big improvement in my hearing, they have also made me more sensitive to noise. Especially unexpected noise. Right now as I type this, PC has the Buffalo Bills v LA Rams football game on TV and is watching reels on his phone at max volume. I am trying to listen to a trial through my hearing aids but can't hear it well for all the background noise. That can be A LOT.
I like being silent or quiet, at least, early in the morning - in the kitchen, or on the patio or in my loft enjoying devotional or QUIET time. It's a wonderful way to gently ease into the noise of the day.
4. Carpentry, electrical, plumbing, landscaping...which skill would you most like to possess and how would you put that skill to use today?
Another interesting question. It would be handy to know my way around simple carpentry, electrical and plumbing issues but my preference would be landscaping. To be able to create beauty outside in nature with nature!! Our landscaping is pretty rough over here. Wish I had the means, the energy and the green thumb to make our yard the outdoor space of my dreams.
5. Do you lean more towards being too needy or too independent? Which do you find harder to deal with in others?
Huh. At times I can be needy and other times, I can be too independent. Would probably lean more toward being independent. I like and try to do everything myself without asking for much help. Sometimes to a fault.
Dependence and neediness are probably a little harder for me to handle in others. I feel like they should be able to help themselves as I have always tried to help myself. That being said, I like my daughters and grandchildren to need me!! And PC, too. I like feeling needed, wanted, helpful.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Two years ago, I broke my right heel. I was not permitted to put weight on that foot for about 2 months. It was a difficult season because I had to count on PC for so much of my day-to-day getting around and needs. It got better several weeks into the ordeal but I still struggled to shower, and to transition from one place to another. He was an angel. So patient. So helpful. Reassuring me that I would be back to normal sooner rather than later.
PC is 4 weeks hip replacement post-op and I have had an opportunity to reciprocate a little bit. He is very independent and has done so well but he still needs help putting on his left sock. I am needed!!
