Hodgepodge 10.21.2026: Back to the Future
Hey
friends, just popping on real quick to join Joyce and the gang for this week's
Hodgepodge. I usually combine my hodgepodge posts with some other kind of
link up but today's is pure hodgepodge and nothing else.
Hope
you will join me in visiting Joyce at From This Side of
the Pond and some of the other gals for their take on this week's
thought-provoking questions.
Hodgepodge: Back to the Future
1. This week's Hodgepodge lands on 'Back To The Future Day'.
October 21, 2015 was the date the movie characters (Marty McFly, Doc, and
Jennifer Parker) traveled to in the future in the 1989 film Back To The
Future Part 2.
Did you see the movie? Tell us a something about what was
happening in your life in the fall of 2015.
I did see the movie back then or shortly after it was first released, I think. And have seen it multiple times since. Although, I preferred the first movie in the series over this part 2.
The fall of 2015, I was thrilled to be anticipating the arrival of my second granddaughter, and Lauren's first baby. In October, Lauren would have been progressing from her first trimester to her second. We learned she was having a girl on 09.27.2015.
2. Which -ber onth is your favorite? (September,
October, November, December). Explain why.
There are positives about each -ber month but October is my favorite. The weather in El Paso in October is pretty delightful (unless the winds kick up - which they tend to do around Halloween). This October we have had more rain than usual so the mountains and foothills are a vibrant green. It is warm enough for short sleeves in the afternoon and 'fresh' (El Paso word for cool) enough in the morning to merit a light jacket or cardigan. October brings lots of fun activities in the Sun City, too.
This weekend we have the Amigo Airsho with the Blue Angels, the Dia de los Muertos parade and mercado, a ghost tour downtown at San Jacinto Plaza, a Coraline Inspired Ink and Drink, Weekend Wine Shuttle, candle making and pumpkin painting at Rio Grande Winery, and a theatrical performance of the Mexican folktale "La Llorona." Hoping to have a date night for the "La Llorona" performance on Saturday and maybe a day date for the Dia de los Muertos parade. But that will take some talking!!
3. Red, yellow, orange, bronze...your favorite fall color to
wear? To eat? To see in nature?
I have recently discovered and embraced that red is a pretty good color on me. Probably became more so when I allowed my hair to go natural salt and pepper. Orange, too. So I am going with those colors on the list above. But I would argue that a deep eggplant-y purple and a dark green could also be fall colors and I like wearing both of those.
I like eating pumpkin everything... so going with orange for my favorite fall color to eat. And there's that Panera autumn harvest soup that I love this time of year. In a bread bowl, please.
Seeing any of these colors in nature would be breath-taking and a little surprising because we really don't see much seasonal change in our foliage in far west Texas. Below, I am posing beside one of our rare fall trees.
4. What do you miss most about being 20?
My figure!! My stamina. My headful of hair. But wouldn't go back to 20 for any of that.

5. We're roughly three quarters of the way through the year.
What's one goal, habit, or mindset you want to purposely carry into the final
weeks of the year? Elaborate.
My word of the year is:
While going with the flow is often very difficult for the OCD planner in me, I have managed to do some flowing. PC's son came to visit last weekend. That would normally have had me in a tailspin but I tried very hard to flow. We had some plans but also did some hangin' at home and some spur of the moment stuff. We took in a UTEP football game - were practically the only folks in the stands. And saw the movie "Heart of the Beast" with Brad Pitt and Odin, the German shepherd. The boys spent Friday together while I subbed.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
A few weeks ago, I finished reading (listening to) Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke which is quite the wild ride. And has to do with time travel - kind of. In honor of the theme of today's hodgepodge, I decided to look for a list of other time travel-themed novels. "Town and Country" magazine online has compiled a list of the 35 best books about time travel, here. Of the titles on the list, I have only read 3 and am only familiar with a couple more. Might be fun to add one or two of these to the November consideration list for my online book club, "Come Read with Me." Particularly interested in checking out Kindred by Octavia E. Butler.
Your Turn
Thank you for coming by today. Hope whatever plans you have made for the weekend, you sneak in a little YOU time, too.

I enjoyed Yesteryear too! I like some time travel stories; it just depends on the writing. Happy Fall! 🍂
